The African Union strongly condemns the suicide bombing at a refugee camp in northern Cameroon

Addis Ababa, 2 June 2017: The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Moussa Faki Mahamat, strongly condemns the double suicide bombing, on 2 June 2017, at a refugee camp in the town of Kolofata in northern Cameroon, near the Nigerian border. The attack that targeted the camp used by people displaced from their homes by the Boko Haram terrorist group resulted in the death of at least nine people and injury of about 30 others.

The Chairperson of the Commission is saddened by the loss of life and injuries resulting from this cowardly attack, and extends his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and wishes speedy recovery to all the injured. He also expresses the AU’s solidarity with the Government and people of Cameroon.

The Chairperson expressed the AU’s steadfast rejection of indiscriminate attacks against civilians and underlined the need to reinforce the fight against terrorism and violent extremism in the Lake Chad Basin.
