US Ambassador pays courtesy call to the ACSRT


<strong>On 8 February 2015</strong>, the Ambassador of the United States of America to the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria H.E Joan A. Polaschik, paid a courtesy call to the ACSRT.

Ambassador Polaschik received a warm welcome from Ambassador Francisco Caetano José MADEIRA, AU Commission Chairperson’s Special Representative for Counterterrorism Cooperation and Director of the ACSRT and was briefed about ACSRT mandate, activities and current priority programme.<!–more–>

Ambassador Polaschik and Ambassador Madeira discussed a wide range of issues related to terrorism. They stressed the need for continued concerted efforts to eradicate this scourge from the African continent.

Ambassador Madeira indicated that prevention of terrorism is paramount in the African Union’s counter terrorism approach. The establishment of a strong partnership and cooperation between the government and the Civil Society to counter radicalization and violent extremism, the promotion of good political, economic and social governance, the strengthening of CT judiciary capacity of AU member states, border security, intelligence gathering and analysis and combating the financing of terrorism are some of the main ACSRT CT priority activities.

Ambassador Madeira stressed that the co-operation between the ACSRT and the USA in the area of CT capacity building has had a positive impact and needed to be continued and further strengthened.
