4th Annual Regional Economic Communities (RECs)/Regional Mechanisms (RMs) Coordination Meeting

Today, 21st November 2019, Algiers, Algeria: The African Centre for the Study and Research on Terrorism (ACSRT) is holding the 4th Annual Regional Economic Communities (RECs)/Regional Mechanisms (RMs) Coordination Meeting in Algiers, Algeria.

The meeting was attended by representatives of East African Community (EAC), Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) and Southern African Development Community (SADC) in addition to Multi-National Joint Task Force (MNJTF), the Sahel Fusion and Liaison Unit (UFL Sahel), the Committee of Intelligence and Security Services of Africa (CISSA), African Union Economic, Social and Cultural Council (ECOSOCC) and The Inter-Governmental Action Group against Money Laundering in West Africa (GIABA).

The Meeting chaired by the ACSRT Deputy-Director, Mr. Idriss Mounir Lallali, aimed to update the participants on the prevailing terrorism threat situation and progress made on regional Counter Terrorism (CT) and Prevention and Combating of Violent Extremism (PCVE) activities. The Meeting also sought to identify best practices and challenges, explore new areas of cooperation between ACSRT and RECs/RMs, and subsequently design relevant capacity building programs.

The meeting was also intended to review the implementation status of the previous meetings recommendations, identify the challenges and pave the way to enhanced coordination and cooperation between the ACSRT, RECs and RMs, in line with the principle of complementarity and subsidiarity.
