The Executive Director of the Counter-Terrorism Committee Executive Directorate visits the African Centre for the Study and Research on Terrorism (ACSRT)

The Executive Director of the Counter-Terrorism Committee Executive Directorate (CTED), Mr. Jean Paul LABORDE, accompanied by Ms. Samia Ladgham, CTED Chief of Section, were received in audience by Ambassador Francisco Madeira, AU Special Counter-Terrorism Cooperation Representative and Director of the African Centre for the Study and Research on Terrorism (ACSRT) on 3 March 2015.

The Directors of the two institutions hailed the good cooperation that has been going between the ACSRT and CTED and expressed their wish to further strengthen cooperation ties. It is this light that they discussed areas in which the two institutions can collaborate and the possibility of signing a memorandum of understanding between the ACSRT and CTED.

Just like the ACSRT, CTED also conducts evaluation missions to countries to assess their preparedness in preventing and combating terrorism at the end of which recommendations are made and submitted to the visited countries in a bid to help enhance their preparedness in tackling this scourge. Accordingly, the Executive Director of CTED encouraged the continuation of these visits and harped on the importance and duty of the ACSRT in monitoring the implementation of the post-assessment visit recommendations produced both by CTED and the ACSRT. Mr. Jean Paul Laborde also pointed that it was imperative for countries to be exhorted to implement the UN Security Council Resolution 1373 during these evaluation visits.

Furthermore, the CTED Executive Director and Ambassador Madeira highlighted the importance of the various regions in fulfilling their Counter-Terrorism obligations.
