ACSRT and RATS SCO Signed MoU to Strengthen CT Co-operation


Today,11 December 2018, Algiers: AU Special Representative for Counter Terrorism Cooperation and Director of the African Centre for the Study and Research on Terrorism (ACSRT) H.E Larry Gbevlo-Lartey Esq., on behalf of the African Union Commission (AUC) and H E. Yevgeniy Sergeyevich Sysoyev, Director of the Executive Committee of the Regional Anti-Terrorist Structure of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (RATS SCO), on behalf of SCO signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen counter-terrorism co-operation between the two organizations.

The Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) was stablished in 2001 in Shanghai, China and currently has China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Pakistan and India as members. RATS is a permanent organ of the SCO which was established in 2004 to promote cooperation of member states against terrorism, separatism and extremism.

The signing of this MoU marks the culmination of efforts which began in 2016 towards establishing co-operation between the two institutions. In the MoU, the ACSRT and the RATS SCO agreed to develop a roadmap of practical steps / areas to guide their co-operation.
