High level Chinese delegation paid a visit to the ACSRT

Chinese delegation

On 22 March 2016, Mr. Idriss Mounir Lallali, Ag. Director of the African Centre for the Study and Research on Terrorism (ACSRT) and the staff members received a delegation from the People’s Republic of China (PRD) led by H.E Ambassador Liu Hongcai, Deputy-Minister of the International Liaison Department of the Communist Party of China.
The visit aimed at exploring the current and emerging threat of terrorism in Africa, the African Union’s CT mechanism and plan of action.
Mr. Lallali said that Africa is particularly vulnerable to the spread of terrorism and related crimes. He added economic and political deprivation, social disparity, unemployment and misinterpretation of religious codes are among the chief causes behind the growth of terrorism. ACSRTs work focuses on improving AU Member States’ threat awareness and preparedness, developing adequate capabilities and improve Member State’s CT capacity building.
The meeting also provided the opportunity to exchange views on issues of mutual interest, including the latest developments and trends of terrorist groups, the war against the so-called Islamic State terrorist organisation and its impact on the North Africa and the Sahel.
Both sides expressed their conviction that Terrorism is a global threat which has no borders, nationality or religion. It requires sound policies, concerted effort, and international cooperation. It is a challenge that the international community must tackle together.
