9th Focal Points Meeting of the African Centre for the Study and Research on Terrorism

16 December 2015: The African Centre for the Study and Research on Terrorism (ACSRT) and the Committee of Intelligence and Security Services of Africa (CISSA) are jointly organizing the 9th Meeting of the ACSRT Focal Points, from 16th to 18th December 2015, at the ACSRT headquarters in Algiers.

The meeting was opened by Mr. Idriss Mounir LALLALI, A.g. Deputy Director of ACSRT, H.E Shimelis WOLDESEMAYAT, Executive Secretary of CISSA, H.E Ambassador Edwin George MANDAZA, Ambassador of Republic of Zimbabwe in Algeria- representative of the current chairman of the African Union (AU), H.E Ambassador Smail CHERGUI, Commissioner for Peace and Security of the African Union Commission (AUC).

Were also present at the opening ceremony members of the Diplomatic corps accredited to the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria.
The meeting has brought together ACSRT Counter-Terrorism National and Regional Focal Points (FPs) from AU Member States and Regional Economic Communities and Regional Mechanism, in addition to representatives of international organizations.

The meeting was also attended by African and international experts in the field of prevention and combating of terrorism who were invited to share their experiences in their respective fields of expertise.

The three-day meeting will allow the National and Regional Focal Points to analyse the current terrorism situation on the continent, coordinate action and map the way forward in terms of advancing the continent’s counter-terrorism objectives, for a more concrete coordinated joint action.
